Pippa Drysdale is a folk-pop artist who writes the kind of songs that reach into your chest and pinch your soul - you know, just to check you're paying attention. Disarmingly personal, poignant and little left of centre, her music has been described by the Sydney Morning Herald as “wincingly honest”, by Groove magazine as "entrancing" and by Drum Media as "a sweeter slice of Fiona’s Apple".

Her newest album will be released in 2013. It is a collection of songs based on the guitar and piano - peppered with a quirky collection of vintage instruments. It explores themes such as adultery, existentialism, heartbreak, hope and faith. It was written in under a month, recorded in seven days in Sydney and it draws its influence from the way records used to be made – real people playing a real instruments, with a lot of the tracking done in one solid take from beginning to end. The result is something quirky, vulnerable and human.

Now we'd love to tell you were Pippa was from, but we're not really sure - born in South Africa and raised somewhere between Australia and Zimbabwe, it seems that she did most of her growing up on aeroplanes. She has been likened to Suzanne Vega, Natalie Merchant, Francoise Hardy and Joni Mitchell - but then she's also been likened to a good bottle of scotch, so comparisons can really only go so far.

She learnt to play the guitar whilst living in New York, via a combination of instruction from benevolent musician friends and the internet. The piano, on the other hand, she picked up somewhere between London, Perth and a little town called Heartbreak.

Some of the festivals she has appeared at include the Kintyre Songwriters Festival, Cornwall folk festival, Bramfest, Paddle around the Pier, The Aylesbury Festival, In the City Festival (London), The Nannup festival in Western Australia, Hats off to Country and the WAMi festival. She has played at iconic venues such as The Troubadour, The Fly By Night Club, The Bedford and The Half Moon and done charity gigs in aid of Save the Children, The StarFish Foundation and Give a Damn, Give a can.

She has been a finalist in both the WAM and ASA songwriting competitions and her video for ‘Just Five Minutes’ was picked up by RAGE in 2011 and received an honorable mention in the LA International Film Festival in the same year. It was also featured as part of the WAM Music Festival.

Pippa has also shared the stage with many fantastically talented musicians, among which are Blanche Dubois, Felicity Groom, Ocean Reid and Kate Miller-Heidke. You can get all past songs on iTunes…make sure you join the mailing list to get a free song!

A few random facts: Pippa loves black coffee, red wine, good scotch, blue nail polish, foreign films, sensible men with stubble, airports, vintage magazines, practicing her French on unsuspecting strangers and anyone who can make her laugh. She is an introvert but fakes extroversion really well. Her first two albums where made in the space of a year and recorded in a friend's kitchen. They went on to sell throughout Europe and the US through iTunes and other internet platforms.

“Pippa Drysdale - Just Five Minutes: This song was the most infectious catchy song on my list. It s a snappy radio friendly piece of power pop.” Glastonbury emerging talent judge on www.fourforty4.com, 2011

"I can imagine a few of these tracks being honed by chick flicks, and charming songs such as Cherry Blossom Tree and Stupid Angel are sure to be heard in the near future."
Natalie Talbutt, Acoustic Magazine, February 2010
