Fade Away

It’s pretty here
this time of year,
especially
at night.
And there’s a picture
on the wall,
it’s peeling at the edges
from the long, cold nights.
And I believe
in words unsaid,
I believe in ghosts,
but every time I
pack my bags
they’re the things
I miss the most.

Not even London Rain
can soothe me tonight,
I wanna get on the first train,
I wanna board the first flight,
and watch those pretty, city lights
Fade Away.

I grab a map
and close my eyes
and point to anywhere,
anywhere is fine,
’cos I am tired,
I need a change,
if I do it consciously is it
still running away?
And I can hear
on the radio
words to a song
I used to know,
now I feel lost
in my own life,
if I could I’d make a
deal with the devil tonight.

Not even London Rain
can soothe me tonight,
I wanna get on the first train,
I wanna board the first flight,
and watch those pretty, city lights
Fade Away.

And I can hear
on the street outside,
a conversation about
the status of life,
it’s 3am,
it’s raining hard,
I hear a car door slam
and the motor start…

Not even London Rain
can soothe me tonight,
I wanna get on the first train,
I wanna board the first flight,
not even London Rain
can soothe me tonight,
I wanna get on the first train,
I wanna board the first flight,
and watch those pretty, city lights
Fade Away.
